A4988SETTR-T
Allegro A4988SETTR-T DMOS microstepping stepper driver, 8-35 V and ±2 A with a built-in translator, in a 28-contact QFN package.
The A4988SETTR-T is an Allegro MicroSystems A4988 DMOS microstepping driver with a built-in translator, in a 28-contact QFN package with an exposed thermal pad. It is a complete stepper motor driver designed to operate a bipolar stepper motor in full-, half-, quarter-, eighth- and sixteenth-step modes, so a designer can move the motor with a simple step and direction interface rather than phase-by-phase control. The output stage drives up to a 35 V motor supply and ±2 A, with a low output on-resistance of about 320 mOhm typical, and the logic supply is 3.0 V to 5.5 V compatible. The device includes a fixed off-time current regulator that can operate in slow or mixed decay modes, automatic decay mode detection, and internal synchronous rectification to lower the power dissipation. Protection includes under-voltage lockout, crossover-current protection, over-current protection, short-to-ground and shorted-load protection and thermal shutdown, so a fault does not damage the driver or the motor. Typical applications include 3D printers, CNC machines, robotics, camera positioning, building automation and consumer and medical devices. Every driver BeiLuo ships is factory-traceable and includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file. Our FAE team helps you set the current limit, choose the sense resistor and plan the thermal design.
FAE Professional Review
The A4988SETTR-T is the workhorse stepper driver for 3D printers, CNC machines and robotics, and the built-in translator makes it easy to control. Set the current limit below the motor rating, keep the exposed pad well connected to the ground plane for cooling, and use the mixed decay mode for the best step accuracy and the lowest audible noise. Availability is normally good.

Frequently Asked Questions
What projects suit the A4988SETTR-T?
It suits a bipolar stepper motor that needs microstepping and a simple step and direction interface, such as a 3D printer, a CNC machine or a robotic axis. It drives up to 35 V and ±2 A with five selectable step modes.
Set the current limit below the motor rating.
How do I cool the driver?
The QFN package has an exposed thermal pad that must be soldered to a ground plane with a good thermal path and enough copper area. Keep the output current within the rating for the ambient and consider airflow for a continuous duty.
Our FAE team can review the thermal design.
Is the driver genuine and documented?
BeiLuo supplies factory-traceable A4988SETTR-T drivers with an import declaration, certificate of origin and RoHS file on every order. Stock is normally available and the datasheet downloads from this page.
