Allegro Current Sensors Overview

BeiLuo supplies genuine Allegro MicroSystems current sensor ICs, the integrated Hall-effect devices that measure AC or DC current without a shunt and with galvanic isolation. An Allegro current sensor places a low-resistance copper conduction path on the die next to a Hall transducer, so the current's magnetic field is sensed directly and converted into a proportional output voltage; the chopper-stabilized BiCMOS circuit is programmed for accuracy after packaging, which gives a low offset, a nearly zero magnetic hysteresis and a stable output over temperature. The ACS712 family provides 2.4 kVRMS isolation between the current path and the signal path, an internal conductor resistance of about 1.2 mOhm, a bandwidth up to 80 kHz and a total output error of about 1.5 percent at room temperature, with single 5 V supply operation and a ratiometric output, in a compact 8-pin SOIC package. The devices come in 5 A, 20 A and 30 A versions with sensitivities of 185, 100 and 66 mV/A, so a designer can match the range and the resolution to the application. Typical uses include motor control, load detection and management, switched-mode power supplies, overcurrent fault protection, and battery and inverter current monitoring. Every sensor BeiLuo ships is factory-traceable and includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file. Our FAE team helps you choose the current range, the sensitivity and the layout, and plan the isolation and the accuracy over temperature.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read the Allegro current sensor table?

Current sets the measurable range, Isolation the safety separation, and Sensitivity the output per amp. Supply is the operating voltage and Package the mechanical fit.

Choose the range just above your maximum current for the best resolution.

Open the ACS712ELCTR-20A-T page

Which current range should I choose?

Choose the smallest range that covers your maximum current, because a lower range has a higher sensitivity and a better resolution. The 5 A part gives 185 mV/A, the 20 A part 100 mV/A and the 30 A part 66 mV/A.

Our FAE team can help match the range to the load.

How does the isolation help my design?

The 2.4 kVRMS isolation separates the high-voltage current path from the low-voltage signal path, so the measurement is safe and the logic is protected. Keep the creepage and clearance around the current pins and follow the layout guidance.

Our FAE team can review the isolation layout.
